  HISTORY OF THE SMITHERS REGIONAL AIRPORT:

The Smithers Airport was transferred from the Federal Government to the Town of Smithers on April 1, 1999.

It is situated in the northeast sector of the Town and has a 7,544 ft. by 150 ft. asphalt runway suitable for light to medium aircraft with a 24-hour Flight Service Station. Groundside facilities include a network of roads and utilities supporting tenant business operations. At present there are three full-time maintenance employees, one full-time administration employee, and one winter casual worker.

The Town of Smithers and area is serviced by Air Canada who offers two flights daily to and from Vancouver with an approximate flight time of one hour 50 minutes. Hawkair offers one flight a day to Vancouver.

Central Mountain Air offers one flight daily to Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna and Terrace. Central Moutain Air also offers charter services.

Northern Thunderbird Air has scheduled flights to Dease Lake several times a week.

Highland Helicopters, Northern Thunderbird Air, Sustut Air, and Interior Helicopters also offer charter services.
